Vintage Formula racers

The mid to late 1960’s had some of the most beautiful racing cars. Especially in Formula 1 before the invention of aerodynamic wings and the onslaught of gaudy corporate sponsorship liveries. Below are a few stylized models of cars from this era.

The third rendition of this vintage racer was based on the 1960’s F1 Lotus 49 car. Again, the proportions stretched to give it a cute, cartoony look. This go around I had collected just enough photo references online to capture the shape and location of almost every component of the car. This vehicle was modeled using Nomad Sculpt on an iPad Pro. The model was then exported into Blender for shader materials, organization of pieces (there’s over 100!) and final renders (seen below in the top 2 images).

In this example, I caricatured the proportions to be more cartoony, mixed in influences of several cars (Lotus, Brabham, Ferrari) from the era into one. The entire vehicle was modeled on an iPad Pro using Nomad. All paint application is strictly vertex paint and not textures.
